Bali, Indonesia - Mt. Batur, Temples, and Rice Terraces
Before leaving Ubud and moving on to Seminyak for a few days Jami and I took a guided trip to the north for a sunrise hike of Mount Batur. It was going to be an early morning for us to make the drive and hike up to the top before sunrise. We had one of the local guides show us up the mountain by flashlight. Our guide was telling us that the day before was overcast and the sunrise wasn’t too visible. We got pretty lucky that morning and had a beautiful sunrise. On the way down we got to see all of the monkeys that lived on that mountain. There were so many of them and they were aggressive! Of course this doesn’t stop Jami from playing with them. And of course she got bit! For those of you keeping count, that’s her third monkey bite in Southeast Asia. We returned to our villa once we got back down and after a quick nap we were checked out and on our way to Seminyak.
Jami and I had a few days to spend in Seminyak on the west coast of Bali. We hired a driver so we could make some day trips to explore that side of the island. Our first stop was Tanah Lot Temple. This temple was situated at the top of a rock in the ocean and only accessible at low tide.
Next were the Jatiluwih Rice Terraces. These rice terraces spanned so much land that Jami and I were only able to walk a small portion of this. We were able to see how the Balinese worked to grow their crops.
The last stop of the day was Para Ulun Dana Bratan, a temple on the lake. The temple was nice but the highlight was Jami having her fifteen minutes of fame. Everyone was lining up to take photos with the blonde girl. It was weird but she loved it.
Our last few days in Bali were spent poolside in our own private deserted villa with an infinity pool overlooking rice terraces. It was very relaxing and the perfect way to end our stay.
