Bali, Indonesia - Ubud
Jami and I loved our stay in Ubud. There were so many things to see and do nearby. Day trips further out were easily accessible, too. Ubud was where we spent the majority of our time in Bali. Jami and I stayed in an amazing villa with rice fields right out our window and views of Mount Agung (Bali’s highest peak) in the background. Our villa was right next to the Monkey Forest at the end of Monkey Forest Road. We were so close to the Monkey Forest where there are hundreds of monkeys that the restaurants nearby had slingshots incase any monkeys tried to steal anything! You have to be careful with those monkeys. While walking around Monkey Forest one of them got a hold of someones cell phone and ran up a tree!
Ubud was where Jami and I had our first experience exploring by scooter. It definitely beat having to wait in traffic while traveling by car. We did as the Balinese did and weaved around all of the stopped cars. It was scary at first but we soon got the hang of it. I only rear-ended one bus! Jami and I were able to explore several temples around Ubud and one their famous rice terraces! Riding around by scooter may be some of my favorite memories.
While in Ubud we made sure to try out a few spas and get some relaxing massages. Jami was able to get one of the signature “four hands” massages where two masseuses were synchronized in their hand movements. I got to try a hot stone massage which started off a bit too hot but turned into a nice and relaxing heat.
It was so hot while we were in Bali. Some of our walks were picturesque and we rewarded ourselves for braving the heat with some delicious coconut ice cream! There was a local shop full of fresh coconuts. Their ice cream was so good that we decided to reward ourselves several times during our stay there!
